Sister's Living Room

My sister and her husband bought a house in Charlotte and have been in the process of moving/unpacking/decorating.

Sister sent me some pictures of their living room and asked for my advice/opinions/help on decorating it.

The room has huge potential.
The floors are in great condition and they have a pretty blank slate to start with.

The fireplace is a bit awkward but long term plans are to carry the brick across and have custom built ins flanking both sides. I think?

Sister and husband plan on painting the walls and are considering painting the brick (my vote).

Sister is in Seminary so they are working with one income and are on a budget. That being said, we are working with the furniture they have. The couch and chair are in good condition and are luckily pretty neutral.

Here is the "idea board" I came up with for them.

I suggested the seagrass rug for texture and to quiet the room a bit. The area is on the smaller side so they won't need something too large and therefore can save some $$ there. Their coffee table is also in good condition and they both like the dark wood.

The TV stand was handmade by Danny. I have suggested sanding and staining to match the coffee table. I also think they should either add two more doors and some neat hardware or take the doors off completely.

The main color will come from throw pillows, drapes and then their accessories.
I happen to have a lot of different fabric so that saves $$ and pillows are so easy to make that you can change your mind and switch them out whenever you want.

The plan is to keep it neutral and calm with pops of color and pattern that can be easily changed downt he road.

Thoughts?

IKEA Experience

I had this empty wall and a major lack of storage.

So, after browsing the Internet for the cheapest fix,
I headed to IKEA to purchase these bad boys
I got white so that if I want to paint it later I can.

Normally I can be a pretty patient person.
This night, not so much.
The box was 73lbs.
In order to get the thing up my stairs (was alone and refused to wait on Manfriend), I had to rip it into shreds and carry up the pieces one at a time.

Then I scoffed at the fat little men telling me I had to have an assembly partner
and got to work.

Many frustrated outburst later

Then came the fun part...

I was too exhausted to "style" it but wanted to get a few things out of plastic bins.
Now all of my scrapbooks, cook books, magazine clippings, stamps, stickers, workout gear....has its own nice little cube.

Sorry for the lighting, it was 9:30 and y'all know my camera is AWFUL to begin with.
You get the point. Empty wall is gone, crafty tools have a place, plastic bins stacked in corner are gone, and I am becoming a bit more organized.

Now I just need to get around to making it look fancy.

Any cute tips for me?

Sweet Dreams

When I walked into my new apt and saw this

I thought to myself

"Self, what are we going to do?"

After deciding on fabric for the bed (same as bathroom)
and accepting that I could not change the walls,

I have this

(please excuse the poor quality but I was in a pinch and used my IPhone)
(and excuse the sad job at making my bed)

The window behind the bed is tiny so we used an extra long rod to give it the illusion that it was in fact a large picture window.

Now, I choose Ballet Slipper pink because really, when else can I have pink curtains in my bedroom?

The bedroom windows were bare before so we added some more bamboo matchstick blinds

Then some more Ballet Slipper....

The entire room feels much softer and super lavish now.

Now, to be honest, is it the bedroom of my dreams? No.

But it will do for now (2 years-ish)

Until then, I will continue to tare, rip, scan, circle, and save pics like this
Because why not?
